A mormota, vagyis Phil Punxsutawney meglátta árnyékát pénteken a Pennsylvania állambeli Punxsutawney-ben, ami azt jelenti, hogy még hat hétig marad a tél az Egyesült Államokban.

A legenda szerint ha a mormota február 2-án meglátja árnyékát és visszabújik alvóhelyére,

még hat hétig téli idő fog uralkodni.

Ha nem, akkor korai tavaszban reménykedhetnek az amerikaiak.

Bár a mormota nem igazán teljesít jól időjósként - az amerikai meteorológiai szolgálat szerint "nincs jós szakértelme" - a városka minden évben február 2-án megrendezi a rituálét.
