Anna Erdei was born in 1951. She received a degree in biology and chemistry from Eötvös Lóránd University (ELTE) in 1974 since when she has been working at the Immunology Department of ELTE, where she is now head of department. She has been a visiting researcher and visiting professor at Oxford University, the Immunology Institute Basel (Switzerland), the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin (Germany), the Weizmann Institute (Rehovot, Israel) and since 2002, permanent visiting professor at Innsbruck University (Austria). Her main field of research is the mechanism of the development of immune response, the role of natural immunity and its relationship to adaptive immunity and the regulation of immune processes. Since 1995 she has been a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) and actively involved in various other organisations. She is the head of the Doctors of Biology School of Eötvös Lóránd University, Faculty of Natural Science and secretary-general of the European Federation of Immunological Societies.
